Innovation Project

Already in their 1st year at ETH, bachelor students in mechanical or process engineering are challenged by the so called "Innovation project". During the winter semester 2006/07 (for the first time) the students had to design and build a working prototype related to three different given tasks. The tasks were:

A: Transportation of 5 wooden bricks over a distance of 1m onto a defined platform

B: Cleaning distributed rice from an area of 1 x 1m

C: Refilling rice out of 5 small cans into one larger can

As a building base different parts from LEGO Technics and a control box with different actuators and sensors (e.g. Joystick) were offered. As well the students were free to use any other material or controls. The goal was to perfom the tasks as fast as possible. At the end of the semester, a contest was organized where all teams had to compete against each other. For the winter semester 2006/07 the performances of the teams are available as video sequences in the list below.
